Household Recycling

We believe in the importance of recycling as much as possible at The Sorting House. It’s not only great for our development but also for the environment. You can help us recycle efficiently by placing the correct items in the right bins.

Blue Recycling Bin

The blue recycling bins are located in the car park, accessible from the lifts or rear car park shutters, behind the lift shaft.

Please ensure that:

  • Items placed in the blue bin are not bagged. If you bring your recycling down in a bag, please dispose of the bag in the adjacent bag bin.
  • You crush down boxes and large bits of cardboard to fit as much in the bins as possible.

Items suitable for the blue bin include:

  • Cardboard – including egg boxes and pizza boxes
  • Paper and shredded paper
  • Newspapers, magazines and catalogues
  • Unwanted books
  • Envelopes and junk mail
  • Greetings cards and wrapping paper
  • Food and drink cartons – including juice boxes (Tetra Pak)
  • Travel tickets (for bus, tram, train)
  • Greetings cards
  • Flyers, leaflets and pamphlets
  • Toilet and kitchen roll tubes

Please note: large cardboard items, such as furniture or appliance boxes, should be broken down into smaller pieces and placed into the bins.

Brown Recycling Bin

The brown recycling bins are located in the car park, accessible from the lifts or rear shutters, along the wall leading to the rear car park ramp shutters.

Again, please ensure items placed in the brown bin are not bagged. If you bring your recycling in a bag, dispose of the bag in the adjacent bin.

Items suitable for the brown bin include:

  • Plastic bottles – including shampoo, bleach, mouthwash, drinks, washing up liquid and milk bottles
  • Foil and foil trays
  • Empty aerosols
  • Tins and cans
  • Glass bottles and jars

What can’t be recycled by the local public waste services

Due to Manchester City Council’s recycling capabilities, certain items cannot be recycled by them via the weekly collections. Please dispose of these items appropriately and responsibly.
