Fire Policy

Stay Safe Fire Policy
We operate a “STAY SAFE” policy at The Sorting House. This means that on the event of a fire within your flat, the occupants:
- Must alert others in the flat
- Make their way out of the building
- Must not use lifts
- Summon the fire and rescue service by telephoning 999
If a fire starts in the shared areas, everyone in these areas should make their way out of the building and summon the fire and rescue service by telephoning 999.
All other residents not directly affected by the fire would be expected to “Stay Put” and remain in their flat unless directed to leave by the fire and rescue service.
Things to do to reduce the risk of serious fire damage:
- Check batteries and condition of your smoke alarms. Smoke alarms only remain effective around 10 years
- Switch off electrical heaters, blankets, TV’s and other electrical equipment when possible
- Keep door and window keys where everybody can find them
- Try to keep all internal doors closed to stop possible fire from spreading
